How to behave as a guest July 19, 2011 15:56
All of us might have visited our friends and relatives, staying at different places. Are we bothering about our behavior as guests? Our behavior signifies our dignity and self-esteem. There is a saying, -Guest in house is a God in house-. It is believed that we are blessed with God to have guests at home. The guests should behave properly so that they would be invited again and again, by the family. The guest should first inform about his arrival and also should be aware of the program of hosts. He should not make a visit, when there is a problem in the family or somebody is ill. If it comes to his notice at the last moment, he could make alternate arrangements for staying outside. If the hosts want to spend time with the guest, they could show their feelings by the gestures. If the hosts talk well, listen to him, entertain him and make him feel at home, then he could plan for a stay there. The guest should greet all the family members with love and affection, as soon as he enters the house. He should follow the household rules of the hosts. He should not try to behave in a manner as he behaves in his house. He has to inform them his program and duration of visit, as soon as he enters. It could be helpful for the hosts, to adjust their program. He may get up very early in the morning, hear radio or TV with much noise or he may talk aloud or laugh aloud. He should control himself and make less noise, when he is a guest. He should help the hosts in the kitchen and household works. It is not a hotel for just sitting and ordering. He could ask them to prepare simple food. He should invite them while going out for sightseeing and shopping. He should spend money for them while going out. He should not interfere in the family matters of the hosts. He should not take one side and support somebody in the family. Moving with some members and avoiding others, in a family should be avoided. He should not take freedom to enter the kitchen and eat whatever he wants. He should not try to repair anything, without their consent. When the guests take the kids with them, they should train the children properly how to behave politely there. The basic manners such as greeting the elders, saying -thanks- if somebody helps us and -sorry- if we do something wrong are to be taught them. Moreover, they should be taught to help others. They should not enter bedroom or touch/use the personal things without getting permission. They should not abuse or scold anybody. They should inform the parents whatever they need. They should not try to pack things of hosts, before returning. The guests could take some photos with the hosts, to share the sweet memories. Before leaving, he should give small presents to all the family members. Behaving as a guest is really a social skill which should be practiced by everybody. Best wishes for being a good guest and win appreciation of hosts

Here are some of those mistakes, that we should be careful before even thinking of them; Many times, our desire to hunt for that ‘spice’ in life, dominates our career as well. As soon as we get used to our work, job becomes routine, all your colleagues sound ‘boring’ to you, nothing new to learn and explore, we will tend to find new job, in the search of some more exciting atmosphere and job profile. If the duration of the job change from one organization to another, after sustaining more than two years or three in a company, when you experience all these thoughts in you and look for a change, then it is somewhat ‘okay’. But, within six months to a year, this will definitely add on a negative to your CV and your career as well. You are not a kid and this is not a school, to bunk the class, without prior intimation. And moreover, when it comes to quitting the job, let this transition period be smooth and not in such a position that you can’t even think of being in talking terms with the employees or management in your company. So, be patient, serve the notice period completely and then leave. You never know, the employees or the management of your previous company might encounter with you in near future as well. So, control your senses, be alert.Despite you not being not being a career oriented woman, it is better to have a career plan or atleast a strategy as what you have to do with your professional life. it is not that the world has to know about it, knowing about yourself and mind set, it would be helpful for you to keep your career in a right track. Just do not take any situation in your organization that would in turn be an obstacle to your growth. When you are supposed to let out certain things, speak about your work profile, talk about your good work, or expected to answer to certain questions, just speak. This way, there would be no chance for you to develop that frustration over the job and later leave the company for a silly reason, after going through a lot more big challenges. No, doubt, money matters a lot and that too in a costly life style these days. But, is your reason for a job change is only because of you finding an opportunity to earn more perks and nothing more? Then, wait. Apart from perks, there are lot more such as job profile, recognition, satisfaction, flexibility in work and timings, and most important, peace. So, stay calm and think as many times as you can before changing the job. Expert opinion, does work. But, only you know better about your capabilities and what you are supposed to do with your life. So, take an opinion, but you decide what you want to do with your career. One last advice, think before choosing the career option.Once spending couple of years in the same domain, changing the field, is not advisable at all. Totally avoid the southwest direction. In a kid's room, the bed can be placed in the southwest corner. Place the bed in such a way that your child has his/ her head facing the east or south direction, while sleeping. As a part of Vastu guidelines for children room, it is recommended to avoid placing the mirror on the opposite side of the bed. If you want to keep furniture items in a children’s room, keep them a few inches away from the wall. Don't have the furniture attached to the wall, as it obstructs the flow of positive energy. The study desk should be placed in such a manner that the child faces east, north or northeast corner while studying. East is the most appropriate direction, as it paves way for enhanced concentration. Avoid placing a television or computer directly opposite the bed. The television set or the computer monitor, when switched off, reflects the bed, just like a mirror, and is a bad omen. If you must have a mirror and a television in the bedroom, have them either on the left or the right side of the bed. The door to children’s room should not be exactly opposite to the bed. Rather, try placing it an angle from the door. Sharp edges and pointing nooks comprise of something that is better avoided in children's room. The center of kids' room should always be empty. Try to avoid placing something in there. The almirahs and cabinets should always be located in south or west direction of the room. Up-lighters, when placed in the southeast corner of children’s room, help promote health and generate positive energy. Sharp lights as well as spot lights should never ever be used in kids' room, as they tend to create mental strain. The doors as well as windows of children's room are best designed in the east or north. The windows should be opposite to the door. Green color proves the best for kids' room, as it is associated with freshness and peace and increases brain power as well.

Making a door resistant to fire can add important time for people to escape from home fire emergencies. Two ways of making doors fire resistant exist. The first way is to coat the surface with a protective resin or carbon-based chemical that lowers its ignitability. The second way is to immerse the entire door in a mineral-based solution so tht the entire door is changed in composition. The coating method requires a liquid agent known as an intumescent. Older intumescents and endothermic resins, where endothermic means heat-absorbing, have become disused due to the excessive smoke they produce when challenged with great heat. But lighter intumescents continue to be used. Intumescents cannot hold off a fire from a door forever but merely retard flames and increase the time it takes for the door to ignite. They are applied as a thick coat in the manner of paint onto the surface of the door. Exposure to excess moisture and constant heat is discouraged to protect the efficacy of these agents. The second way of fire proofing is to soak the entire door, as long as it is not yet painted and finished, into a solution. Commonly ammonium or zinc salts are used. After soaking and drying these woods become highly impervious to heat. However, the second method is much more labor intensive than the first. A very new kind of door is the fiberglass door. Strands of glass are bonded with a resin-like compound in a door-shaped mold. The finished product is a door that’s solidly constructed with hardened glass but still contains the flexibility of resin. The surface of fiberglass may be made to appear like traditional wooden doors, but without the downsides of warp-age and cracking. Fiberglass doors, being so long-lasting, also provide extended warranties lasting up to 30 years. One drawback is that fiberglass doors are difficult to fix except for the most minor of problems.

An open kitchen should blend in with the style and design of the adjacent room. For example, a English style kitchen will look out of place next to a rustic living room. You want the kitchen to match the rest of the house but it needs to stand apart too. try demarcating the cooking area from the actual living area. Instead of a traditional arch, use different flooring options to separate the two areas. From vitrified tiles for a modern look to wooden laminates and rough-finish stone for a country look, you can take your pick.Another way to separate the kitchen area is to plan it on either a step lower or higher than the rest of the room. If you choose to have it a step higher, then try glass bricks with concealed lights for the skirting of the step.A dining table is another way of separating the kitchen from the rest of the room.If space permits, go with a charming little island in the middle of the kitchen. Include a couple of tall stools and you have got yourself an instant family room. From dinnertime chitchats to homework, your kids will have you around all the time.An island doesn't have to be just another counter. You could have drawers and cabinets fitted in for extra storage space.

A bedroom is a place of retreat: one’s private space to read, sleep, love or dream. When decorating, think about who will be using the room, how it will be used and the occupant’s personality and tastes. Will she feel most relaxed in a romantic room with white furniture and ruffled bed linens or in a modern room with simple furniture and sleek lines? Perhaps a more exotic style with bamboo night stands and leopard print bedding will be most appealing. After deciding upon a style, careful thought must be given to decorative elements such as bedding. Upon entering the room, the occupant should be welcomed by a comfortable bed dressed in attractive linens. Fluffy pillows, comfortable sheets and a cozy bedspread are essential, but a stylish bed skirt is an important finishing touch. A bed skirt fits over a mattress set’s box spring, hiding it and lending a more coordinated look to the bed. It also hides storage boxes, dust bunnies, slippers and anything else that finds itself under the bed. It consists of a panel that fits between the box spring and mattress and fabric that hangs down to the floor, called the drop. Bed skirts are available for any budget and are sold everywhere from discount superstores to pricey department stores. Before purchasing a bed skirt, measure the distance from the top of the box spring to the floor to find the length of drop needed. While the most popular drop is 15-18 inches, other sizes can also be found. For beds with non-traditional drops, the Internet offers a variety of choices or custom skirts can be ordered. Bed skirts come in different fabrics, from sturdy poly/cotton blends to sumptuous silk and soft chenille. They can be purchased in neutral colors such as tan or white to match any bedding, or in colorful patterns or solids to coordinate with other fabrics in the bedroom. Some manufacturers create entire bedding sets, so that bed skirts, comforters, accent pillows and even curtains coordinate. There are a variety of styles to choose from when looking for a bed skirt. The three most popular are ruffled, box pleated and straight. The fabric of a ruffled skirt is gathered at the top, making the skirt appear fuller. A box pleated skirt features pleats several inches wide, all around the skirt. A straight skirt falls right from the panel to the floor. The skirt will benefit from a touch-up with a warm iron after removing it from the package, so that it will hang on the box spring without unsightly wrinkles. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for washing and caring for bed linens. While many bed skirts are machine washable, some prefer to have pleated skirts professionally dry-cleaned and pressed to avoid ironing all those pleats by hand. While usually not the most eye-catching element of a bedroom, a bed skirt with a coordinating color and texture can add to the overall harmony of the room, helping to create a peaceful refuge for the occupant

When it comes to interior lighting, bathrooms are probably given the least consideration of all the rooms in the house. The average client I meet doesn't think to invest there — save it for the living room or kitchen, they say. I see a lot of baths with inadequate lighting at the mirror. Often there's just a single ceiling fixture that's supposed to do it all.But as the bathroom increasingly becomes a place to relax and recharge, complete with steam shower and spa tub, the lighting requires extra thought. And when it's done right, the payoff is great. After all, this is the room where you start and end your day.A good lighting plan is a series of layers — placing ample light where it is needed for showers, shaving, or putting on makeup, for instance, while other light sources enhance the overall mood of the room.Vanity lighting gets top consideration because these fixtures work the hardest to illuminate the head and face for grooming. The most common mistake people make is putting recessed ceiling fixtures directly over the mirror. These cast shadows on the face, making daily grooming rituals more difficult.Vertical fixtures or sconces mounted on either side of the mirror are best for casting an even light across the face. But given the size and positioning of some vanity mirrors, sidelights can be impractical (mounting them directly to the mirror is always an option, but at greater planning and cost). Only then do I suggest a fixture for over the mirror. It should be placed 75 to 80 inches above the floor and, like all vanity lighting, contain at least 150 watts — ideally spread over a fixture that's at least 24 inches long so that the light will wash evenly over the hair and face. The shower is a secondary area of task lighting. In smaller bathrooms, if the stall has a clear glass door, a dedicated fixture may not be necessary. Otherwise, I recommend a recessed light with a glass lens (plastic will yellow). Similar recessed fixtures work well over a freestanding tub or the toilet.
