Arun Gawli convicted by MCOCA court

The criminal gangster Arun Gawli who turned politician had been convicted today after the Special Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act Court had declared him guilty of the murder of Kamlakar Jamsandekar, who was a corporator of Shiv Sena.

Eleven others were also convicted along with Gawli. The sentence is to be pronounced on August 27.

Bala Surve one of the convicts had died during the trial while three others were considered not guilty after the court could not find any supporting evidence.

Jamsandekar was killed in March 2008 at his home in Asalpha residence located in the suburban Ghatkopar. Gawli who was in the police custody since his arrest in May 2008 had been convicted today.
In a hearing in a court on October 7, 2010, Gawli and other accused had pleaded not guilty after the court had framed them under MCOCA, sections 302 (Murder), 34 (common intention) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
The case was identified as a contractual killing ordered upon Jamsandekar by Bintade and Surve after they had set their eyes on a Saki Naka plot as Jamsandekar had not cooperated.
Gawli had been the prime accused as the execution was his bidding.
The chargesheet said that a sum of Rs 30 lakh was paid to the Gawli gang for the job.
