BJP factions readying for showdown

arun-bjpAs the contest for the new chief minister’s post in Karnataka has narrowed down to former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s candidate DV Sadananda Gowda and Rural development minister in the outgoing cabinet Mr. Jagadish Shettar, candidate of the rival BJP faction led by the national general secretary Mr HN Anantha Kumar, the two groups are gearing up for a show down at tomorrow’s legislature party meeting.

Party central leaders Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh are arriving in Bangalore tonight to oversee the BJP legislature meeting. Meanwhile, Jiatley told media persons in Delhi this morning that there could be a secret voting for the election of the new chief minister if there is no possibility of a consensus.

Home Minister Ashoka contradicted this in Bangalore saying the election of the new legislature party leader could be through consensus only. “There won’t be any secret voting for this,” he said.

However, there may be a last minute surprise when the BJP legislators meet tomorrow, he said and added the ultimate decision making authority is left to the central leaders.
