Suspecting links with IS, woman held in Hyderabad

On Friday, a woman, who was alleged to have links with Islamic state was caught at the Hyderabad airport.

A 38-year-old Afsha Jabeen alias Nicole alias Nicky Joseph, reportedly recruited Hyderabad resident Salman Mohiuddin, who was arrested in this year to IS, in the past.  

Late on Thursday night, she was deported along with her husband Devendra Batra alias Mustafa and also with their three daughters.

As per the reports, she lives in Tolichowki area in Hyderabad. The UAE deported her as a part of the campaign. In fact, this is a regular practice of UAE to deport the people with links with IS.

Similar IS suspects in the recent times

Last week itself, two people whose native is Kerala, were deported to India by the UAE for allegedly spreading IS propaganda on the internet and on the local people.

Earlier in the year, a 32 year old Salman was arrested just before he boarded the Dubai flight. Speaking about Salman, the police said, “To join IS, Salman planned to travel to Syria via Turkey.”

Upon investigation with Salman, the latter said that, Nicky, a British national, living in Dubai, had influenced him to join her in Dubai and subsequently go to Syria.

But after a detailed interrogation, it was known that, Nicky was, in fact, a resident of Hyderabad and was living along with her husband in Dubai.

Who is Salman and how he is linked with IS?

Nicky is a graduate of Shadan College, Hyderabad, who allegedly took an interest in IS activities and started recruiting people for the group.

Reportedly, Salman met Nicky on Facebook in the last June, while he was living in the US. “They created various social networking groups under fake names and started propaganda and attracting people who were interested in the IS,” an official said.

Following a tip-off from US intelligence agencies, the officials here had arrested Salman. The US intelligence agencies had been monitoring Salman since he left the US for India in last October, after he was denied for the extension of Visa.
 
Salman lives in Bazaar Ghat under Habeebnagar Police Station in Hyderabad and his father Ahmad Mohiuddin is a garment trader. In 2008, he is done with his B.Tech from Anwarul-Uloom College of Engineering and Technology at Vikarabad on the outskirts of the city.

He went to the US in 2011 and joined the Texas Southern University for a Masters degree in Transportation Planning and Management. Later, Salman worked as a sales executive at several places in Houston, including a car rental firm and a pharmaceutical company.
