The Karnataka High Court directed the trail court to go ahead with probe against BJP MP and former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa in the disproportionate assets case. The court passed the order on a petition filed by a Shimoga-based advocate who had challenged the Lokayukta Court order dismissing his complaint against Yeddyurappa in the case.
The FIR alleges that Yeddyurappa taken over the forest lands in Shimoga but the local magistrate squashed it. However, the high court has ruled against the quashing, and asked the magistrate to take up this case afresh. Yeddyurappa was chief minister of BJP when the probe was launched but he stepped down from the post due to internal politics in the party.
Yeddyurappa later quit BJP and formed his own party. However, for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he rejoined BJP and contested for Lok Sabha.
