ManuSinghaviAs Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s role in the 2G scam was exposed by none other than the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee who sent a note to the PMO alleging that he could have prevented the 2G spectrum scam if he wanted, the congress rejected an opposition demand to dismiss Chidambaram from the Union Cabinet or seek his resignation.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told a media conference in Delhi today that Janata party leader Mr Subramanyam Swamy’s allegations were being heard by the Supreme Court and the matter was sub judice. “No one can pass judgment against any one when the matter was pending in courts,” he said defending the Home Minister.

Abhishek Singhvi also said that the party doesn’t doubt the integrity of Chidambaram and it has full faith in him.

Pranab refuses to comment

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is on an official visit to New York, refused to comment on the note sent by his Ministry to the PMO doubting the role of the Home Minister Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum license allocation.

“The matter is being looked after by the Supreme Court. How can I comment on such a matter” he answered journalists who wanted to know his reaction.

DMK says Raja’s stand vindicated

DMK said on Thursday that the stand of the former communications minister Mr A. Raja was vindicated in the 2 G Spectrum scam. “The stand taken by Raja that the decision to allot licenses of 2G spectrum in 2008 at the price level of 2001 was taken with the full permission of the then Finance Minister Chidambaram is now proved right with the letter written by the Finance Minister to the PMO,” said DMK in a statement in Chennai.
