The special CBI teams from Delhi, equipped with a search warrant given by a Delhi court, raided the offices of the Chief Minister Karunanidhi-family owned Kalaignar TV channel in Chennai as part of the investigations into the 2G Spectrum scam.
The searches, commenced in the dead of the night, continued till this morning in the presence of the top management of the channel. Managing Director Sharad Kumar was present during the raids.
The raids came after several days of denial by the channel management that it was not involved in the scam and did not receive any kickbacks in the 2G Spectrum scandal which led to the arrest of former Telecom Minister A. Raja who is now in judicial custody.
Kalaignar TV, owned by the wife and daughter of Karunanidhi, received an amount of more than Rs.200 Cr from the DB Realty group after the group was granted license for UAS and scarce radio waves. “It is a loan which is repaid already and the income tax department is aware of the transaction,” Sharad Kumar said.
