Human Embryos can be Susceptible to Coronavirus During the Second Week of Pregnancy:- Human embryos can be susceptible to coronavirus during the early second week of pregnancy. The study says that if a mother gets sick, there is a potential chance of affecting a successful pregnancy. The scientists in the University of Cambridge and California Institute of Technology found that genes play a crucial role in how the SARS-CoV-2 virus infects the active cells in embryos during the early second week of pregnancy. This can be recognized as a respiratory disease that can cause coronavirus. It also affects many other organs said the researchers. Obesity and advanced age are the risk factors as per the researchers.
As per the journal Open Biology, it is said that a technology to culture human embryos is used to look at the activity of the key genes in the embryo. There are large spike proteins on the surface of SARS-CoV-2. Both spike protein and ACE2 are cleaved and they allow the genetic material from the virus to enter into the host cell. These genes are expressed during key stages of the development of the embryo. They interact with the maternal blood supply for nutrient exchange. Professor Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz said that their work suggests that human embryo can be susceptible to coronavirus during the second week of pregnancy if the mother gets sick.
