The Foreign Direct Investment move announced by the UPA government is evoking mixed responses. While some are supporting the decision, some are raising voice against it. Same is the case with Punjab. The government of Punjab expressed its displeasure over the decision taken by the UPA on FDI in Indian retail sector. However, NRIs in Punjab supported UPA's move. The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has said that FDI in retail sector would be beneficial to Punjab as it would also turn fruitful to farmers.
They have urged the Punjab government to welcome the move of the UPA government. Further, the association has said that FDI would eliminate middlemen in the marketing and therefore farmers would get benefits. Will government of Punjab entertain the request of NAPA is a million dollar question.
