NRI affairs minister of Punjab, Bikram Singh has said that a special identification NRI card would be given to the migrant Punjabis. This card is mainly given in order to instil a sense of confidence among the migrant Punjabis, said the minister. Notably, the Punjab Government announced in July that it would launch an NRI card and finally implemented the same in September.  This card would be helpful in identifying them besides providing various facilities for them.

The NRI card can be obtained from the websites of the NRI department. When migrant Punjabis are in India, they can use this card for shopping too for availing special discounts.  Further, legal help online would also be provided to them on this card.  Meanwhile, Bikram Singh has also said that the government would take necessary steps to make sure that NRIs will be safe on foreign lands.
