A 30 foot Bronze, Nelson Mandela statue was established by South African officials outside the government complex in Pretoria, after Mandela’s funeral on December 16. But the officials fumed over this statue as the sculptors left a ‘signature’ of their artwork - a sculpted rabbit, inside one of the ears of the statue. Also they have demanded the department of Art and Culture to remove it immediately.
The two sculptors were identified as Andre Prinsloo and Ruhan Janse van Vuuren and they have apologized to the Minister of Art and Culture Paul Mashatile. Both sculptors claimed that they added the rabbit as trademark as the officials did not allow to put the signature of them on the statue trouser. Mr. Paul Mashatile also assured for removal the rabbit from the statue as there was a uproar from public.
Mandela statue stands with hands stretched and it is the largest statue of the South African leader in the world.
