Australia to battle with India in World Cup Final:- Thursday saw the second semifinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, with Australia defeating South Africa by three wickets and thus becoming the opponents of India in the tournament's final. The last time India and Australia met in a World Cup final was in 2003, with Australia emerging victorious by a margin of 125 runs. This result enabled them to lift the trophy for a third time, and they repeated their success in the following edition in 2007. On Sunday, India will seek its third World Cup title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This will mark a return to the top of the podium since 2011, when they won the final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Their first victory was in 1983, with Kapil Dev as captain. On Thursday, South Africa endured its fourth ODI World Cup semifinal loss, having previously been beaten by England in '92, Australia in '07 and '23, and New Zealand in '15. Furthermore, the Proteas engaged in a nail-biting draw in '99 against Australia, yet were still unable to make it to the final.
