Massive Fire Breakout in Pune's Serum Institute of India:- A massive fire broke out in the Serum Institute of India in Pune facility where the vaccine for coronavirus is currently produced. An under-construction building caught fire and some of the floors are completely destroyed. Covishiled, the vaccine developed by Serum Institute of India in association with Oxford University and British-Swedish pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca is currently produced in Pune. Nine fire tenders are working on the spot and the fire came to a control. "Thank you everyone for your concern and prayers. So far the most important thing is that there have been no lives lost or major injuries due to the fire, despite a few floors being destroyed" told Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India.

"We are trying to rescue one or two people, that's our only priority now. We will assess the situation later on the damage on all other counts," told Adar to the media. SII is spread across 100 acres in Pune. The complex in which the fire broke out is a few minutes from the facility where the coronavirus vaccine is being produced. SII announced that there are no casualties reported. Maharashtra government said that they are in touch with the Pune Municipal Commissioner and a team of NDRF officials are on the site. The investigation about the incident is currently on and there are talks that the construction activities might have led to the fire accident.
