Serum Institute of India Receives a Coronavirus Vaccine Purchase Order from the Centre:- The Indian government is all set for the mass distribution of the coronavirus vaccine in the country. Ahead of the vaccination drive, the Indian government today announced that it is all set to buy 11 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine from Serum Institute of India (SII) which is made in association with Oxford University and is named Covishield. The vaccine dispatches are expected to start from this evening. The officials of SII confirmed that they have received the purchase order from the government of India.

As per the sources, the vaccine will be available at a price of Rs 200 per vial. Covishield is developed by the University of Oxford along with AstraZeneca, a Swedish-British company. Indian Drug Regulator approved the emergency use of the coronavirus vaccine on January 3rd. The Indian government now ordered a bulk vaccination from SII. The discussions about the prices are going from the past two weeks and they are keen to bring down the prices per shot. There are talks that the government aims to secure 600 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine from SII to accommodate 300 million people in the next six months. SII is currently ready with 50 million doses of vaccine for immediate distribution.
