In a major development, yesterday, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Amma faction, comprising Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his cabinet, decided to remove party General Secretary V.K. Sasikala, and her nephew and Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran from the party.
The decision came after the EX CM of the State and Amma loyalist, O Paneerselvam (OPS) put three conditions, to merge his camp with the incumbent Government. One of the major condition, was to keep Sasikala and her family (Dinakaran) away from the party , while the other was to order an investigation into Jayalalitha’s death.
Emerging from a consulative meeting, chaired by Palaniswami, Finance Minister D. Jayakumar, declared that, this unanimous decision was taken in view of all the party cadres, including the CM, MLAs, MPs and public. A decision has been taken to fully keep away Dhinakaran and his family from the party and the government. A committee will be formed soon to run the day-to-day affairs of the party.
The AIADMK, was launched by M.G. Ramachandran and nurtured by our late Amma, Jayalalithaa. Sasikala, after the demise of Amma on December 5, 2016, took over the rule of the party, and appointed herself as the General Secretary. Later, Sasikala was convicted in Disproportionate Assets (DA), in February this year, and was serving her sentence in Bengaluru jail. In her absence, she appointed her nephew TTV Dinakaran as the party’s Deputy General Secretary. Dinakaran was expelled by Amma, when she was alive. But, was re-introduced by Sasikala, which invited a lot of criticism, and flak from OPS camp, Amma’s staunch loyalists.
Dinakaran was charged an FIR by the Delhi police, over the allegations of bribery, where he tried to buy the Election Commission officials, and was willing to pay whooping Rs 50 crore, to get the party’s “two-leaf” symbol.
