The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Deputy General Secretary and V.K. Sasikala’s nephew, TTV Dinakaran, has been charged an FIR, by the Delhi police, over allegations of bribery.

Dinakaran, was willing to pay Rs 50 crores, to the Election Commission, to win rights to the party’s two-leaves symbol, which is contested by a rival faction, O Paneerselvam. His alleged middleman, Sukesh Chandrasekhar was arrested from Hyatt hotel, in Delhi, yesterday night, and the police have recovered Rs 1.3 crores from him.

An FIR has been filed under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The section pertains to taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence public servant. Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC has also been invoked. Dinakaran, however, refuted the allegations, and claimed he did not know the middleman, and said he would fight the case legally. Earlier, the VK Sasikala faction of the AIADMK, sought eight weeks’ time, for submission of additional documents and affidavits, to prove its case that, rank and file of the ruling party are with them.

The petition was submitted to the Chief Election Commission (EC), Nasim Zaidi in New Delhi, for submission of the necessary documents and affidavits, by the Sasikala camp. It stated that, it would not be able to submit the affidavits before April 17, the deadline set by the poll body, to reinforce their claims on the party symbol, that still holds sway over people in Tamil Nadu. However, it was not clear whether the EC would accept or reject the demand, made by the Sasikala Camp. While freezing the two leaves symbol on March 22, the EC had asked both factions of the AIADMK, to submit documents by April 17, so that full bench hearing on the matter can begin.

Joint commissioner Praveer Ranjan has formed a special team comprising officials, of the inter-state cell of crime branch to probe the high profile case, it has been learnt.

The Delhi police case also comes soon after IT raids on 50 locations in Tamil Nadu, during which the officials seized Rs 5.5 crore from the Tamil Nadu health minister Vijayabaskar's associates. The minister is a supporter of Dinakaran.
