Karnataka Lokayukta court special judge Mr N.K. Sudheendra Rao today ordered a 7-day judicial custody to former chief minister Mr BS Yeddyurappa in a corruption case relating to the de-notification of lands in and around Bangalore city during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Mr Yeddyurappa earlier surrendered before the Court following denial of bail to him. The judge ordered his immediate arrest and gave the arrest warrant to Deputy Superintendent of Lokayukta police Prasanna Raju.
Along with Yeddyurappa, former minister S.N. Krishnaiah Shetty was also arrested and sent to judicial remand till Oct 22 on the orders of the court.
When the court issued arrest warrant after completing the hearing and rejecting the bail petitions Yeddyurappa was not present in the court and his lawyers said he was suffering from back pain and sought exemption from his personal appearance.
The former Chief Minister however came to the court within hours of issuing the arrest warrant and surrendered to the court.
Two Bangalore based advocates Mr Sirajin Basha and Mr. N.K. Balaraj filed the cases against Mr. Yeddyurappa in January this year after Governor H.R. Bhardwaj gave them sanction to initiate criminal proceedings against him and others for allegedly de-notifying land in and around Bangalore illegally for monetary gains.
Mr. Yeddyurappa is the accused number one in the two cases and the other accused were granted conditional bail by court. The court said they would face arrest if they do not fulfill the conditions within a week.
