Citizens of the world rose to occasion as a campaign online begun motivating the women around the world to fight against the crimes against women, after the Delhi gang rape.
Joining the campaign are several who’s who and most notably, Anoushka Shankar, the late Sitarist Ravi Shankar’s daughter. The campaign started on Change.org who sent out invitations to one billion people at least to “Dance, Rise Up and Demand” on Valentine’s Day. Titled, One Billion Rising, intends to convey the strong message: 'Enough! The violence ends now'.
In a video on the website, Anoushka had expressed her stories of child abuse where she was traumatized but how she couldn’t fight or deal with. She said, "As a woman I find I am frequently living in fear. Afraid to walk alone at night, afraid to answer a man who asks for the time... and enough is enough. I am rising, for (the Delhi rape victim) and women like her. I am rising with the amazing women of my country. I am rising for the child in me, who I don't think will ever forgive and recover from what happened to her. "So, join me, let's rise, and let’s dance. Dance has the power to heal, to transform. So let's transform ourselves and this world. Let's rise together," she added on the video.
