Special Task Force To Curb Ganja In Vizag:- Vizag City Police Commissioner Dr A. Ravi Shankar has allotted a special task force to curb the harmful narcotic substances and ganja in the city. Vizag is the largest consumer of ganja in Andhra Pradesh and the city commissioner immediately after taking charge taking a strong dig at the drug smugglers in the city. Police reports say that most of the posh localities, colleges and university hostels in Vizag use Ganja.
The task force will now guard the city borders with the help of sniffer dogs at the city entry points, these dogs are trained to catch the drugs by sniffing. Police say that large quantities of drugs bordering the agency districts are under high security as a high quantity of drugs are being smuggled through these areas into Vizag City.
As per reports smugglers after an increase in security around the borders of the city, they are now using boats to cross the river, which is around 5km and stopped using road routes. Andhra -Odisha border is the major growing region of the ganja. K Ramesh, one of the peddlers, used the river way at night time to transport weed, according to reports.
In 2022, AP police destroyed 2.45 tons of ganja and over 25 members were arrested in 2023, who are interlinked with interstate smuggling gangs. According to police, nearly 10,000 acres in agency regions are cultivating ganja, which is around Rs 1000 Cr turnover annually.
