Rains to improve in the coming days: Met Department

The much awaited and crucial rains in the monsoon are to improve in the coming days, said the chief of the weather office of India on Thursday. This is expected to cover up for the scarcity of the rainfall that has been experienced this year due to the delay in the arrival of the winds from the southwest.

The defeciency that had been accrued would be soon filled up in the coming days said L S Rathore, the director general of the Indian Meteorological Department.

"The major area of concern is the nor-western part of the country where there is a paucity of the rains. Unfortunately it also happens to be the prime region growing the coarse cereals", he said after a meeting with K V Thomas the food minister.

As reported there is a 22% deficit in the rains of monsoon as compared to the average rainfall since the beginning of the season in June. On Monday the government had said that there is a chance that the overall rainfall received could be below the average values. The latest weekly reports on the rainfall are yet to be released on Thursday.
