Govt convenes all party meet on Hazare demands

Govt convenes all party meet on Hazare demandsHaving decided to end the impasse over the Lok Pal Bill in the wake of the indefinite fast of the anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare who has been demanding a Jan Lok Pal, the government has convened an all-party meeting at 3.30 pm tomorrow to discuss the issue and take a decision.

Government has decided to seek a wider political consensus before taking a decision on the demands of Anna Hazare and his team members.

Hazare’s fast entered the eighth day on Tuesday. His main demand is that Prime Minister and the members of the higher judiciary also should be included in the purview of the Lok Pal Bill.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, said that there was not much difference between the contents of the Bill suggested by the Anna Team and the Lok Pal Bill introduced in the parliament by the Government. “The main difference is more on methodology rather than content,” he said. “The government is ready to take suggestions and incorporate changes in the Bill for having a stronger Lok Pal institution.”

Congress MP Mr Praveen Singh Aron has already submitted a copy of Hazare’s Jan Lok Pal Bill for consideration of the committee.
