CBI court summons Jaya

jaya-imageA special CBI court at Chennai on Tuesday directed AIADMK Chief Jayalalitha and her former cabinet colleagues K.A. Sengottaiyan and Azhagu Thirunavukkarasu to appear before it on May11 for framing of charges in a case relating to acceptance of grafts on her birth day in 1992 when she was the chief minister.

Dismissing the petitions of Jaya and her party men, CBI judge Palanisamy said the former chief minister had accepted a graft of Rs.2 Cr and some valuables from persons whom she had official dealings.

Jayalalitha had received the money in the form of 89 demand drafts drawn on banks from 59 people and about Rs.15 lakh in cash on her birthday in 1992, says the charge sheet which runs into 2000 pages containing 285 supporting documents and a list of 149 prosecution witnesses.
