HMR for safety measures

Always latest happenings get latest techniques to comply with latest rules.  Old railway constructions also made the public safety an important thing but more focusing was done on the service and the protection for railway property.

As a latest addition to public transport system, the Metro Rail project of Hyderabad is going to adhere to all the rules pertaining to the National Building Code (NBC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

In order to facilitate the evacuation with ease in case of fire, automatic smoke and heat sensors will be installed to give a signal to the public by hooter and public announcements to evacuate.  Platforms, stair cases and open stations of metro will be designed in such a way that the evacuation will be quick and without hindrances that create confusion and may lead to stampede.  The gates and enclosure which usually are for the fare collection will automatically be thrown open at the time of fire.

As well as the easy evacuation for the safety of the public, the fire extinguishing will be done with water storage and latest techniques.  Every metro station will have a water sump of one lakh liter capacity with pumping system.

The above decisions were taken at the high level meeting the metro rail officials had with the Director General of Fire Services S.V.Ramana Murthy.  Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S.Reddy decided to have fire service teams dedicated to Metro Rail at Uppal and Miapur Depots.

That way, the HMR is not only going to contribute for the metro transport but also is going to look after the safety of the commuters as well.
