Why FDI wasn't included in manifesto, questions Venkaiah Naidu

BJP senior leader Venkaiah Naidu has lashed out at the United Progressive Alliance. He expressed his displeasure on the government allowing foreign direct investment in Indian retail sector. Terming the move as inappropriate, Venkaiah Naidu said that all political parties at the regional level and national level were opposed to FDI. To make a point, Venkaiah Naidu has also questioned as to why UPA didn't include FDI in its manifesto when it went into elections in 2004 and 2009.

It is known that leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj (of BJP) moved a motion against FDI yesterday. In the voting, government won. As per the government's decision, foreign companies would be allowed to hold 51 per cent stake in multi brand retail stores. Media too expressed its displeasure on FDI by terming it as execution of mid level retailers.
