![Abhijit should be forgiven: Congress](/media/k2/items/src/80963b91b28ed4d8fec03e67e884ceb2.jpg)
After President, Pranab Mukerjees son, Abhijit made controversial remarks against women protesters in Delhi, his sister apologized on his behalf. The budding politician, Abhijit said that the women who were at the protests were not even students and calling them “dented and painted”. Congress on Friday had its turn apologizing to the people of the nation.
However, their apology was a little different from the definition of apology in the dictionary as I read it. They asked the people to forgive and forget the son of the President, Abhijit Mukherjee who made the controversial comments in West Bengal against the protesters of the gang rape incident in Delhi.
External affairs minister Salman Khurshid said that it is better to talk about good things and that the accused should be forgiven after he realizes a mistake. He urged that Abhijit be supported and goaded in the right direction. Rahid Alvi has also said something on a similar note, "He has realised his mistake and on his own, he has expressed regret”.
All that justification aside, what is the fate of the nation with politicians like Abhijit who do not have the basic sense to not make such sexist comments while the whole nation is lamenting the shameful act in Delhi.
A controversy was sparked in the nation after Abhijit, the congress MP filling in the seat of the President Pranab Mukherjee in Jangipur constituency. After the insensitive comments he apologized unconditionally and also offered to resign from his position. He retracted his comments saying that it was not his intention to hurt "any particular section or any particular sentiment".
