Amid allegations of siphoning Rs 71 lakhs from the funds he had received for the NGO run by his wife and him, Khurshid had been facing a lot of criticism over the past week but he remained undeterred on his stand that he would not resign over the allegations. He was also ready to mention how he used the money on the NGO to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The NGO was generously funded by the Central government and the funds would reach the differently-abled people of Uttar Pradesh. Replying to Kejriwal's allegations he said he would brief the Prime Minister on the controversy that his NGO used the money it was given to buy and distribute equipment like crutches and hearing aids in Uttar Pradesh.
Kejriwal has today announced the temporary suspension of his protest in Delhi only to continue the protest in Farrukhabad, the Union Minister's constituency. He vowed that he would let all the villagers understand the scam. He also called the minister's proof a bunch of lies and dismissed them. He produced three differently-abled people whose names allegedly figure on the list of beneficiaries of the minister's trust; they deny they were helped by the trust in 2011.
Mr Kejriwal also said that an inquiry against Mr Khurshid, initiated by the UP government, cannot be impartial. He said that Mulayam Singh Yadav, whose son Akhilesh is the Chief Minister of UP, is being investigated for corruption. He speculated that Yadav and the Congress could exchange favors by saying each other.
UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on the other had had argued that Kejriwal's claims were meaningless. He questioned, "How can you say the inquiry is fair or not before the report is made public?".
