Over 20 people were injured and 9 killed at an unforeseen stampede at Deogarh of Jharkhand in an ashram.
The Satsang Ashram had organized a morning prayer at the complex of the Ashram to pay tributes to Thakur Anukul Chandra on the occasion of his 125 birth-anniversary in the prayer hall.
Of the nine killed, 8 were women.
The mishap occurred as over 2 lakh devotees had crowded the relatively small prayer hall while fighting to get further in the lines to offer their prayers to Anukul Chandra's samadhi.
Injured people have been transferred to the Satsang hospital as nine people are in critical condition. "Volunteers had taken full responsibility of crowd management and they failed in their task. The situation is now under control", he said.
Satsang management described the incident as unfortunate.
