Four Pilgrims Killed In Stampede In Bihar:- According to an official, around four pilgrims died and more than a dozen were injured on Saturday in a stampede. The tragic incident occurred on the banks of the Ganga river in Bihar's Begusarai district.

The incident occurred in a narrow lane next to the Simaria ghat, where people had gathered in large numbers on the occasion of Karthik Purnima, said Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police Mithilesh Kumar.

"We are trying to ascertain the cause behind the stampede," Kumar said. He further added that the identities of the women have not been ascertained yet. The stampede was caused by some rumours, said the district police officials.

An ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of each deceased person, was announced by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

On the occasion of Kartik Purnima, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, hundreds and thousands of Hindu devotees took a holy dip in the river Ganga. The pilgrims offer water to the Sun god and give alms to the needy.
