Three people were injured when a minor stampede took place during the Rathotsavam of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Kadiri in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday morning. In those who were injured, included a constable-on-duty.
However, the authorities brought the situation under control within minutes. Those injured were shifted to the government hospital where medical assistance was provided.
Every year, the Rathotsavam takes place during the Narasimha Swamy Brahmotsavam at Kadiri and the chariot is known as 'Teru' locally. It is dragged out by scores of devotees along the narrow streets of Kadiri town.
Reportedly, the mishap occurred when 4 lakh devotees flooded the streets of Kadiri, to take part in the Rathosatvam.
The Kadiri Narasimha Swamy Brahmotsavam started on March 7. It is followed by ‘Ankurarpanam' along with celestial wedding of the deity on March 8. Brahmotsavam will conclude on March 21.
