13 people of the several men who publicly involved in molesting a girl had been granted bail at a court today. The incident had become a national outrage as several people all over the nation had protested against the act in Assam.
The Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate yesterday granted bail to Nabajyoti Baruah, Jitumoni Deka, Nabajit Deka, Dipak Deb, Puspendra Das, Dhanraj Basfor, Rubul Ali, Hafizuddin, Sikandar Basfor, Diganta Basumatary, Debo Das, Rupkanta Kalita and Ghanashyam Malik.
However, Amarjyoti Kalita, the prime accused in the case had not been granted bail yet with his application pending with the Guwahati High Court and might be dealt tomorrow. Gaurab Jyoti Neog the journalist who was associated with the crime was granted a bail last month on August 13.
The trial of the case would proceed on a day-to-day basis from September 18. After investigations by the Assam police 15 persons were booked under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 (obscene acts), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (outraging of modesty of woman with criminal force) of IPC.
The case was to be dealt in one month as it involved social concern and court decided that it should be put on fast track and efforts would be made to dispose of it within one month.
The girl was allegedly assaulted and molested by a mob outside a bar on the busy G S Road on July 9 which was captured on camera triggering a national outrage.
