Vidhana Bhavan to increase the security at the premises

Vidya Bhavan has made plans to upgrad the security systems at the premises to ward off the unwanted members from the place. According to the plans, the state Legislative Assembly is to have the protection with barcode passes, 5 bullet proof security towers, spiked barriers, bollards and high-definition CCTV cameras.

Numerous cases where the legislators with their supporters have posed problems and created nuisance have been witnessed in the premises. There have also been attacks on the security guards at times. With this upgrade it can be ensured that there would be no scope for such incidents to repeat.

A senior official said that the new barcode pass would be issued to all the visitors and without a pass he cannot enter the premises. Faking the barcode is also not possible since they would all be screened by computers. Additionally the number of visitors would also be controlled so as to maintain a level of decorum in the Vidya Bhavan. Management of the disruptions if any would also be brought under control quickly.

There is presently a limit to the number of visitors a legislator can bring along but they are not being enforced strictly. This was also the reason for the attack on a few security guards a couple of years ago.

28 high definition cameras which would replace the meagerly sufficient 15 CCTV cameras and 5 bulletproof security towers would also be placed. Spiked barriers and bollards will be installed to prevent unwanted vehicles from entering the complex.

A member of the opposition Eknath Khadse had also proposed the biometric system but wasn't as accepted as the other proposals.
