Pune blasts: CCTV cameras non-functional

The police, who are investigating the explosions that took place in Pune, have noticed that  two CCTV cameras at two blast locations were not working. These two non functional CCTV cameras were at Dena Bank and McDonald's restaurant. It may be recalled a major explosion claimed several lives in Pune in 2010 at German Bakery. The municipal corporation then identified 70 important locations and issued orders to ensure that CCTC cameras be set up at these places. While most of the selected still don't have CCTV cameras, it's unfortunate that the installed cameras, where the latest explosion took place, were non-functional, said observers.

Whatever might be the reason, leaving the CCTV cameras without repairing them is now becoming a big hurdle in the investigation, said sources. All in all, investigation is going on. Now that there are no casualties, this incident should at least become an eye opener to the union home ministry.
