Cracks among AI pilots, flight services resuming slowly

Differences seemed to have cropped among Air India pilots as a few Air India pilots said good-bye to the strike and resumed their duties while the striking pilots officially didn’t say that they called off the strike.

This came in as a relief to the aviation department, which said that it had expecting more pilots to resume the services immediately. The Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) has, however, said the strike was on and would continue.

One of the Air India official has made it clear that no one was ready to hold discussions with the pilots until and unless they call off the strike and report back to the duties. It is known that the aviation ministry has said the same thing time and again. A Delhi court has also ruled the strike as unconstitutional when the aviation ministry moved the court.

Why pilots are holding strike?

The pilots who are holding strike have primarily kept four demand before the ministry of aviation. They are:

1.    Payment of arrears from 2007

2.    Free travel on business class when not on duty

3.    Exclusive flying right on Boeing 787

4.    To be promoted as commanders within six years of joining the service

It may be noted that several international-bound flights have already been cancelled due to the ongoing strike and passengers are reportedly expressing their displeasure over sudden change in the schedule and cancellation of flights. Once Air India loses its passengers, it will be very tough to attract them back unless and until they introduce special discounts and offers. And instead of going through all that procedure, it would apparently be better if the demands of the pilots are accepted.

Yes, all these demands seem to be like series of tall demands raised by Air India pilots. But it looks like there’s no other better alternative for the aviation department.
