UP electorate predicts hung assembly, betting prospers

Anti BSP wave seems to be in the upswing in UP as per political critics. This time Congress seems to have made a sizeable dent to the ruling party.

Wikileaks, Scandals on the government, row with the men in uniform, uncontrolled crime rate, all and more seems to have taken the toll on the Uttar Pradesh elections. The elections are almost coming to an end and here starts the betting sessions, where political speculators start the game. Political critics predict a hung assembly in the state. And the person who should be happy at the moment must be Rahul Gandhi, who had toiled much in the area in launching a mammoth combat against the ruling BSP. But there is much to feel bad for the ruling BSP, as speculators feel a clear down slide in its popularity. The assembly is predicted to be hung one, with the Congress claiming `No Alliance’ with another party in the state during the polls.

According to sources in the “satta” business, the stakes are up to Rs. 1.50 for a majority government while the bets for a hung Assembly are pegged around 20 paisa which means that anyone who bets on hung assembly gets Rs. 1.20 for every rupee he invests — a case of minimum risk and minimum gain. Those that bet on a majority government will get Rs. 2.50 for every rupee invested if any party gets a majority on its own. Bookies felt that the third phase of elections when it became clear that no party was getting a comfortable majority.

The “satta” market, incidentally, predicts a washout for the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party in these elections. The bookies are ready to pay 40 paisa if the BSP crosses the 110 seat mark and for those willing to bet on a majority for the BSP, the rate is 55 paisa.  (With inputs from internet: AarKay)
