In the wake of her strong dissent over the set up a new counter terror body under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the West Bengal chief Minister Mamta Banerjee sent a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In continuation to the letter, her absence in a function attended by the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Kolkata, today raises speculation over the allies’ relations intact. The Home Minister attended the NSG hub inauguration function in Kolkata. The function was attended by Trinamool Congress leader and Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy representing the CM. Initially the function had announced that the CM would grace the occasion, but later was deleted.
It may be noted that earlier the CM sent a letter to the PM asking him to "review and withdraw" the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), formally sanctioned by the government in an executive order earlier this month. The CM was not alone in expressing her dissent over the issue. She is joined by other non-congress CMs, Navin Patnaik of Odisha, Nitish Kumar of Bihar, Narendra Modi of Gujarat and Jayalalithaa from Tamil Nadu. The Big 5 say the Centre's blueprint violates the principles of federalism by encroaching upon state government turf. They also say that all state governments should have been consulted over the matter.
Meanwhile there is a strong speculation in the air that a proposed third front is being planned. Will the CMs with the dissent join to form a formidable third front or not is yet not clear. Only time will reveal the political secrets of the third front. As per the new policy framed by the PM, the central committee will have the chance to swoop down on any state without any prior intimation to nab the accused. Whereas till date Law and Order was under control of the states, and the states are in mood to loose the control. (With inputs from internet: AarKay)
