Complaints of sexual harassment are a significant issue for women in the society, with the overwhelming majority of women silently bearing the brunt for fear of being exposed.
In a bizarre incident a Congress leader in Mumbai, knocked on the doors of a grocery store lady when her husband was out of town. He demanded her to comply with his sexual advances or pay Rs. 20,000 as compensation. That is if she wanted to live in peace and run her business. The disturbed house wife approached senior Congress leaders, for solution. The senior Congress leader took the lady to the police station. They filed a complaint and subsequently the miscreant was arrested. Bad New Year for a bad man!!
The accused was Vijay Sagar Kamble, general secretary, scheduled cast (SC) wing of Mumbai Regional Congress Committee. He along with three of his accomplices knocked on the doors of the grocer at 4am on Thursday, but she did not open. Again they returned back after an hour to knock once again. At 6am, as usual the lady got up and opened the doors. Immediately Vijay along with his friends entered her house and made the indecent proposal. The sour lady, who cleverly avoided his advances, approached a senior Congress Leader for help, which finally saw the accused in police custody.
