Acting suo moto, the vacation bench of the Supreme Court consisting of the justices B S Chauhan and Swatenter Kumar today issued notice to the Centre seeking reasons for the forcible eviction of the yoga guru Baba Ram Dev and his supporters from their indefinite fasting camp at the Ramlila grounds in Delhi Saturday midnight.
The SC served notices to the Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Delhi, Delhi administration and the Delhi Police Commissioner asking them to respond within two weeks.
“You are directed to let us know the the circumstances under which the people had to be dispersed in the midnight by the use of force,” asked the highest court of the land in its notices. The matter will be further heard in the second week of July.
The court refused to entertain a petition filed by the advocate Ajay Aggarwal on the issue saying the contents of the petition were leaked to the media even before it came for hearing before the bench.
