DMK mulls pulling out of UPA cabinet

DMK mulling pulling out of UPA cabinetIn the wake of the congress president Sonia Gandhi making a courtesy phone call to the AIADMK Chief J. Jayalalitha on Saturday to congratulate her on her party’s victory in the elections, DMK leadership is reportedly mulling pulling out of the UPA government and extending support from outside.

In fact the DMK chief Karunanidhi is very much upset over media reports that congress is planning to establish its relations with the Jaya party after DMK’s disastrous performance in the elections.

After AIADMK said in a statement that Sonia telephoned Jaya and congratulated her on her victory, DMK leaders held discussions several times to take a decision on pulling out of the central government but some senior leaders advised Karunanidhi not to take a hasty decision on it.

Most of the senior leaders are said to have advised Karunanidhi that once the DMK pulls out its ministers from the Cabinet, the party would lose whatever clout it has got in the Centre and things may be very difficult for the party in the future.

Congress however defended Sonia’s action in calling Jaya on phone to congratulate her saying that she had called leaders of all parties who have won the elections and there is nothing wrong in doing so.
