World Health Organisation [WHO] on Friday has declared International Health Emergency in West Africa citing Ebola virus disease. The current Ebola outbreak started in Guinea and later spread to Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. As of August 4th, WHO has reported that 932 have died and 1,711 cases have been reported with the virus.
Meanwhile the Union Health Ministry has issued an alert to 45,000 nationals living in the African continent. Harsh Vardhan advised against all non-essential travel to the four countries, adding that authorities will screen travellers who originate from or transit through affected nations, and track them after their arrival in India.
