A 26 year old who arrived from Liberia has shown traces of Ebola and according to the guidelines of World Health Organisation [WHO], he had been shown to be negative for Ebola tests. India has screened thousands of passengers travelling from Ebola-hit West Africa in recent weeks. Reports say that the victim suffered with Ebola in Liberia but on arrival he showed the documents that he is cured of the deadly virus.
But the officials did not take any risk and asked him to go for precautionary tests. Tests of his semen detected traces of the virus. The Health Ministry officials have taken him to their custody and will undergo tests over the next 10 days or so until the virus is no longer present in his body. The officials however declined to reveal the name of the patient and said, “It is not an Ebola case, he is an Ebola-treated patient who is negative in blood but whose body fluid is positive. He has no symptoms.”
As per the WHO figures, Ebola has killed 5,177 people, mostly in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. WHO is also concerned about the virus spreading in India where the hygiene standards are really low. There are nearly 45,000 Indian nationals living in West Africa.
