Everyday, about five institutions and organizations were being approached and the response is encouraging, the authorities informed. And for constructing the pits, already 50 sites have been identified. About Rs 3,000 per cubic metre will cost for constructing the pits and plans are being laid to construct them before the rise of monsoon.

Unlike last year, only 25% subsidy will be extended to the organizations and colony associations, by HMWSSB, which come forward to construct the pits. The management will bear the rest of the expenses. The HMWSSB, on its front, besides their maintenance, will also be extending technical guidance in constructing the pits.

A senior official from HMWSSB said “Around 5,000 pits were constructed with the board’s funds last year, but this time, we want the colony association and managements to share the expenditure as it will make them more responsible.”

The official said that the majority of the pits were in good shape.

“We have directed the colony associations to ensure proper maintenance of the pits. Respective division engineers have been instructed to closely monitor the maintenance of the pits.”
