In a ghastly incident, a gas leak from a container depot near the Delhi school, in south east Tughlakabad area, hospitalized around 110 students today.
The students later complained of irritation in eyes, due to the gas leakage and hence were admitted to the hospital. A magisterial investigation into the incident, has been ordered by the Delhi Government. According to the police officials, a call was received at around 7:35 A.M, about some chemical leakage at customs area of Tughlakabad depot. The depot is located near the “Rani Jhansi School for girls”, run by the city government.
The police teams and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as well as Centralized Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance reached the spot, following the incident. DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya said, “Some chemical leakage at the customs area of Tughlaqabad depot has caused eye irritation to the girl students in Rani Jhansi school.”
Police further said the students were admitted to three hospitals, and the source of the leakage is yet to be determined. The Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, confirmed saying the students are fine. Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, quoted as saying, “Girl students, who had complained of irritation in their eyes due to gas leakage, have been admitted to three hospitals. I spoke to doctors who told me that they are normal.”
Sisodia said the Area District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been ordered a probe into the gas leakage incident at the container depot. “There was an exam in the school which we have canceled following the incident, added Sisodia.
