LG Polymers Fined Rs 50 Cr For The Gas Leak

LG Polymers Fined Rs 50 Cr For The Gas Leak:- The National Green Tribunal asked LG Polymers to pay an interim fine of Rs 50 crores for the leak of styrene gas that killed 11 people in Vizag yesterday. Hundreds are hospitalized and a fact-finding committee has been formed to probe and investigate the matter. Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel who happens to be the chairperson of NGT asked LG Polymers to deposit Rs 50 crores with the Vizag district magistrate. Though LG Polymers released a statement, they have been asked to attend for the investigation.

The bench said that the leakage of hazardous has is affecting the health of the public badly. The fact-finding committee comprises of B Seshasayana Reddy (AP High Court judge), V Rama Chandra Murthy (Former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University), Professor Pulipati King (Head of Chemical Engineering Department of Andhra University) and others. The committee has been asked to submit the report before May 18th about how the incident took place and the causes of failure and the people who are responsible for the tragedy. LG Polymers was remained shut for 40 days and was preparing to start the operations from yesterday.
