Even In Defeat, Meira Kumar Breaks 50-Year Old Record:- BJP took the Presidential election prestigiously and as a result, NDA’s candidate Ram Nath Kovind has been elected as the 14th President of the country. His historic win left BJP in delight and the Ram Nath Kovind is all set to take the oath as the successor of Pranab Mukherjee. Meira Kumar is the UPA’s candidate and she lost to Ram Nath Kovind by a huge margin. Ram Nath Kovind is the second Dalit President of the country.

However Meira Kumar created a new record that never happened in the last 50 years. Meira Kumar, the opposition candidate managed to get the highest number of votes for a losing candidate. This never happened in the history of India and she managed to get 3,67,314 votes. Ram Nath Kovind got 7,02,644 votes with 65.65% votes among the polled ones. Meira Kumar got 34.35% votes among the total votes revealed an official statement.

Out of the total polled votes of 10.69 lakhs, she managed to get 3.67 lakh votes which is quite high for a losing candidate. Justice Rao had resigned from the judiciary to contest the election, lost to Zakir Hussain but secured a record 3.63 lakh votes. Meira Kumar thanked everyone for their support and she congratulated Ram Nath Kovind on his victory. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Meira Kumar for her efforts. Congress leaders too congratulated Meira Kumar though she could not make it to the seat of President.

Pranab Mukherjee is said to be resigning from his services on July 25th after which Ram Nath Kovind will take the oath. BJP took the election prestigiously and now the Vice Presidential election will be news. The election will take place on August 5th and the battle will be between Venkaiah Naidu and Gopala Krishna Gandhi. NDA is once again making plans to end up victorious in the election.
