Lynching of rape accused, reflection of slow process of law - Shivasena

Shiv Sena tried to justify the mob fury, saying it reflects the people's anger towards sexual crimes against women and slow process of law. "The people of Nagaland have long been protesting the illegal migration from Bangladesh. But their protests were ignored. In the middle of this unrest came up this rape incident...This incident made people lose their patience...It is only a result of people's anger against increasing sexual crimes," an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said. "It is said that the lynching and hanging of the person in public was a result of the failure of law machinery. This in itself is a joke. The government does not think of the deteriorating law and order situation when hapless women are raped, but thinks about it when a rape accused in punished in public," it said.

"What should have happened in Delhi, has happened in Nagaland. The accused in the December 16 gang rape case are presently in Tihar jail and international news channels are showing their lives on TV as if they are actors," it said. It said, "Our judicial system works at a snail's pace when it comes to rape cases. However strong the case may be, we can never be sure if the rapist will be hanged. And if the accused is a minor, he is sent to a remand home where in the name of humanity, all kinds of facilities are provided to him."

The documentary on the Nirbhaya rape case and the lynching of a rapist who has raped a Naga woman in multiple location has been in the news for the last several day. Politicians as usual made the comments and appeared in the TV show. But, even now the women of this country are not safe. What is the cause of this tragedy? Whether it is the failure of the law, which takes decades of process? I would like to emphasis that the crime in this country is due to the irresponsibility of the judiciary and its mentality to drag on the process indefinitely. The convicted politicians are roaming free just because they are having an appeal in the higher court, but the higher court is taking years to consider the appeal and mostly it may not happen in the life time of the convict. This is why the mob justice is prevailing and gaining momentum. So, it is too late but the judiciary have to be sensitive and working, otherwise incidents like this may happen again and the judiciary not the people has to be blamed.
