Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Shakti Act For Death Penalty For Rape:- The Maharashtra cabinet approved the draft of Shakti Act which announces a death sentence for rape. This law will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra very soon. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that this act is brought to safeguard women and children. The Act was discussed in the state cabinet before the final draft was prepared and approved. The draft has a capital punishment provision for offenders who commit heinous crimes against women and children told Anil Deshmukh. The Act will be tabled in the Maharashtra state Assembly during the winter sessions.
Shakti Act comes with a provision of special courts taking up the case and the charge sheet should be filed in 15 days. The trial against the case would take place in 30 days. Yashomati Thakur, Maharashtra's Women and Child Development Minister called it a historic decision in Maharashtra and she said that this law would protect women and children. The number of rapes and crimes against women, children saw a huge rise in the country. Despite of several strict laws introduced and punishments imposed, the crimes continued to take place. The Uddhav Thackeray government will present Shakti Act very soon in the state's Assembly.
