The destitute widow of the former Chief Minister and the Telugu Desam Party founder president N.T. Rama Rao was on Friday evicted from her house. Ms Lakshmi Parvathi, who prized the possession of the house as her husband’s last memories, was evicted from it by NTR's son T. Ramakrishna. The worst plight was even in her absence, with help of Police and the court orders, her belongings were removed and put on the roads.

The house on Road No. 13 in the posh Banjara Hills neighborhood in Hyderabad was her residence for the last fifteen years, since the former NTR’s death. Ramakrishna said the civil court had asked Lakshmi Parvathi to vacate the house by Nov 30. He said since she failed to vacate the house, he had no option but to take the action.

The legal tussle was a decade old, between the children of NTR and his second wife Lakshmi Parvathi, who was never admitted into the family from the beginning. The city civil court had ruled the house belonged to NTR's younger daughter Umamaheswari as it is registered in her name. The Andhra Pradesh High Court and later the Supreme Court also upheld the civil court order. And Umamaheswari, who lives in the US, had given general power of attorney to her brother Ramakrishna.

The heart broken woman wailed to the media, in Guntur, that she was forcibly evicted, though she had sought time to vacate the house. "Is this the way to treat the wife of a man who brought glory to the state?" asked Lakshmi Parvathi. She was emotionally attached to the house as it was here that NTR died in January 1996, a few months after he was politically back-stabbed by his own son-in-law N. Chandrababu Naidu. After his death, Lakshmi Parvathi went into political oblivion.
