In a sharp move against the backdrop of CID probe into forged letter casting aspersions on DGP V. Dinesh Reddy, the State government has on Friday transferred DG of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Umesh Kumar and posted him as the Chairman of Godavari Valley Development Authority, a post considered to be very insignificant.
The government posted Mr D. Bhoobathi Babu, the ADGP, as the new head of ACB. However, as the ACB chief is a sanctioned cadre post of D-G, the government gave full additional charge to him.
Umesh's transfer comes in the backdrop of a CID investigation into an allegedly forged representation to the Centre casting aspersions on the DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy. The CID had arrested T. Sunil Reddy, a former journalist and consultant to Sri City SEZ, who had confessed to procuring documents which formed part of the petition, at the behest of Mr. Umesh.
Umesh will now replace an IAS officer, Jagadish Chander Sharma, as the Chairman of the authority. Mr. Sharma is now posted as principal secretary, General Administration Department (Accommodation).
Looks like the Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, took a serious view on the scandal and immediately decided action on the issue to avoid adding further any more tales to the scandal. The post of chairman of Godavari Valley Authority is viewed by bureaucrats as a punishment posting.
