In a stunning incident, a bridegroom from Eluru who married his lover by force, snatched out the Mangalasutra and ran away from the marriage venue shortly after the marriage leaving the bride in the lurch.
Unable to bear the humiliation, the bride tried to commit suicide but she was admitted to a Vijayawada hospital.
According to reports, one Mr Venkatesh, an employee of a cloth show room in Eluru fell in love with Jayalakshmi who was working in a fancy store near his shop. They agreed to marry but Jayalakshmi suggested but they marry after convincing the elders in both families.
Not satisfied with her response, he turned pessimistic and inflicted wounds on his body with blades and finally convinced her for an immediate marriage. The marriage was solemnized at the Dwaraka Tirumala temple near Eluru on Friday.
However, hardly half an hour after the marriage, Venkatesh snatched out the Mangalasutra from her neck, broke it into pieces and ran away from the marriage venue. A humiliated Jayalakshmi then went home and consumed acid.
She was rushed to a Vijayawada hospital in a serious condition.
