GHMC gets a Woman Mayor and Deputy Mayor:- With no party getting a clear majority in the recent Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, the Mayor election was pending for the last couple of months. The Election for the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor took place in GHMC Council today. TRS Corporator from Banjara Hills, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been elected as the Mayor for GHMC. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is the daughter of senior TRS Leader and Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is now named as the 17th Mayor of Hyderabad. Tarnaka TRS Corporator Mothe Srilatha Reddy is elected as the Deputy Mayor of Hyderabad.

The GHMC officials made arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and other Corporators. Telangana Chief Minister KCR announced that the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected and their names are sent to the officials in sealed covers. All the members are asked to follow the protocols of coronavirus. 149 ward members and 44 ex-officio members elected the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. All the newly elected 150 councilors are sworn in at the GHMC Council Hall in four languages: Telugu, Hindi, Urdu and English.
